Kalbar Bumi Perkasa (KBP)

Project Overview

Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan

Kalbar Bumi Perkasa (KBP) is a cornerstone asset within the Aluminium Industries portfolio. The project is located in Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan, and covers an operational production licence (IUP OP) area of approximately 8,860 hectares.

KBP hosts a large, lateritic bauxite system with extensive historical exploration, test pitting, and prior mining activity, positioning it as one of the most advanced bauxite projects in the region.

Resource scale and quality

The project hosts an estimated:

  • ~261 million tonnes of unwashed bauxite
  • ~133 million tonnes of washed bauxite

Grades average approximately 43–44% Al₂O₃, with peak grades recorded above 50% Al₂O₃, placing the project within the range of internationally competitive bauxite operations.

Resource estimates are based on extensive historical test-pitting programs across multiple defined blocks and supported by over 1,600 XRF assays.

Geology and exploration

Mineralisation at KBP is hosted within lateritic profiles developed over granitic and tonalitic basement rocks. The terrain is predominantly flat to gently undulating, with consistent bauxite horizons averaging approximately 3–5 metres in thickness.

Historical exploration includes:

  • Surface mapping
  • Systematic test-pitting on grids as close as 25m x 25m
  • Channel sampling and wash testing to determine recovery factors

Recent due diligence work by Aluminium Industries has confirmed strong correlation between historical data and resampling results, further validating grade continuity.

Infrastructure and logistics

KBP benefits from exceptional logistics:

  • Approximately 3.6 km haul distance to multiple existing jetties
  • Five historical wash plants located within the project area
  • Short barge distance (~15 km) to ANTAM’s operating Tayan bauxite smelter
  • Established haul roads and river access

This infrastructure materially reduces development capital requirements and enables rapid recommencement of mining operations.

Downstream optionality

A key strategic advantage of KBP is its downstream potential. The project is one of only eight companies in Indonesia approved to construct a smelter-grade alumina refinery, with a planned capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per annum.

This approval provides Aluminium Industries with long-term optionality to vertically integrate into alumina production as market conditions and funding allow.

Strategic importance

KBP represents:

  • Scale sufficient to support long-life operations
  • High-grade bauxite suitable for export and domestic processing
  • Existing infrastructure and downstream approval
  • A flagship asset capable of anchoring Aluminium Industries’ growth strategy
